Welcome to the 2009-2010 Master Players Concert Series

Become a Master Player in Connecting Performing Artists and Audiences!

Through a fully energized commitment to the presentation of concerts, education, and the creation of new musical works, the Master Players Concert Series (MPCS) serves Delaware audiences by bringing to the community world-class artists, who represent the diverse spectrum of the world’s most vigorous and exciting live performances. Entering its sixth year, strong leadership, coupled with devoted University and local communities, has placed MPCS in a league with prestigious concert presenters in the region.

While proudly affiliated with the University of Delaware, housed on the Newark campus, and a regular collaborator with many University units, MPCS serves as a vehicle to gather support for top quality music performances and education for students in Delaware. MPCS seeks support from individuals, corporations, foundations and government agencies, in addition to University support in order to continue increasing its commitment to concerts and education with world-class artists.

A Message From the President

For five years, the University of Delaware’s Master Players Concert Series has delighted music lovers from the First State and far beyond. The series, featuring virtuoso musicians and internationally acclaimed artists and ensembles, has proved enormously popular in a community that prizes vibrant arts programming.

With an expanded 2009–10 season promising unequaled excellence and excitement, I predict even more buzz and more sold-out shows. Audiences will be treated to fun and engaging concerts celebrating Black History Month, Felix Mendelssohn’s bicentennial, Samuel Barber’s centennial, and the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. The University is also honored to host the extraordinary Baltimore Chamber Orchestra.

As you review the concert schedule, please remember that premier seating is reserved for Delaware Diamonds Society and Legacy Society members. If you’re not already a member, you may want to consider joining. Membership has advantages, and your support benefits a great University—one that values and celebrates the arts.

We’ve also made it easier for you to share music’s power and pleasure. Send gift-wrapped tickets and a personal note to those who enjoy an evening of music as much as you do.

If you live some distance from campus, this series is an excellent reason to return for a visit—and to stay awhile. Dine at the student-operated Vita Nova restaurant and spend the night at UD’s award-winning hotel, the Courtyard Newark, where students prepare for careers in the hospitality industry.

Along with artistic director Xiang Gao, and all those who have helped plan this fantastic series, I invite you to join us for some world-class concerts you won’t soon forget.

Sincerely,

Patrick T. Harker
President
