Conceptual Framework
The Department of Music is committed to providing a quality Music Education program that prepares young people to become highly qualified professional teachers. In four years, undergraduates can earn a Bachelors Degree in Music Education. Field experience begins in the sophomore year and continues each year through the pinnacle experience of student teaching. After successfully completing the curriculum, students will be certified to teach at the kindergarten through high school levels.
As part of the University of Delaware's Professional Education Unit, the music education program is accredited through the National Council on Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). As part of the Department of Music, the music education program is accredited through the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). The University of Delaware Professional Education Unit is guided by a unified CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK. Programs aim to develop teachers who are reflective practitioners serving diverse communities of learners as scholars, problem solvers, and partners.
