Undergraduate: The Bachelor of Music in music education is designed specifically to educate and provide certification for those intending to teach music in elementary or secondary schools. The major offers two tracks: instrumental music education and choral/general music education. Students in both tracks are able to gain classroom experience through extensive, field-based teaching opportunities that begin as early as the sophomore year. Graduate: A Master of Music degree with concentration in Teaching. Specializations for the Teaching concentration include instrumental, choral and general music. It is expected that students applying for the Teaching concentration will currently hold a school music teaching position, in order to facilitate the completion of their thesis or professional improvement paper. Please see the department's Graduate Admissions Information page for application procedures. Please fill out the Graduate Audition Request Form to request an audition date.
Music students are STRONGLY urged to consider coming to UD with their own computer. Please refer to the Department of Music’s computer specifications for more information.
In addition we also wish you to consider purchasing a video camera and tripod in order to capture examples of your teachi!ng development throughout your college career, which will become part of your ePortfolio--one of the most important tools needed for employment today.
