Department of Music Podcasts

Podcasts, one of the forms of emerging technology for educators, are a collection of digital media files which are distributed over the Internet. The Department of Music has recently put together three such podcasts on the University of Delaware’s podcast site.

In addition, other emerging technologies in education such as blogs, RSS feeds and wikis are being used among our faculty, staff and students as a way to communicate to the general public and within the University.

The department is very excited to be among the first at the University to have four such podcasts that will aid in recruitment. Created to give President Harker an overview of our department, the podcast entitled The Department of Music at the University of Delaware gives a prospective student a window into the department and has important information that will be helpful for students looking at Delaware for music. In addition, the composition major has its own podcast Composition at UD. This podcast gives prospective composition majors a sense of what they can expect within their major. There is also a podcast of the award winning UD Chorale entitled UD Chorale 2007: Selections and information on Xiang Gao on the Ceruti Violin is detailed in Giving Voice to the Creative Human Spirit.

Assistant Professor Jennifer Barker and her husband John Palmer put together three of the four current music podcasts. There are also plans to expand our Internet presence using this technology and others. Keep checking for new and exciting developments in this field.
