Introduction
When the conversion to DVD of the University of Delaware Music Laserdisc Series was completed last summer, I was reminded what an incredible contribution members of our Music Faculty have made to new technologies. Our work began in the early 1970s and continues to the present day. Indeed the reputation of our Department in the United States and beyond is quite impressive. This article provides an overview that includes who has been involved and cites some of the things accomplished. Four faculty in particular—professors Fred Hofstetter, Michael Arenson, Russell Murray, and Larry Peterson—have completed numerous projects over the past years that have received multiple accolades but other faculty assisted either with the Guido Series (explained later) or with the Laserdisc Series. This list includes former, retired and current faculty: Henry Lee, Henry Cady, Peter Jeffrey, Robert Hogenson, Peter McCarthy, and Jon Conrad. In this retrospective, we will identify the projects, the awards, some of the publications as well as some of the courses that use these materials.
