UD Choral Ensembles — FAQ
There are four major choral ensembles at the University of Delaware.
Below are answers to the most frequently asked questions by students and community members regarding participation:

do I get into a choir at University of Delaware?
All auditions are held at the beginning of the semester. You can find information about the entire process here on the website (see Auditions). Auditions for the Fall 2008 are being held in AED Room 118 on September 2, 3, 8 and 9.

if I am a community member, and not a full-time
student?
You may be eligible for Schola Cantorum, our large symphonic chorus composed of students, faculty, and community members. You can read about all the ensembles at UD here on our website. And the audition process for all choirs is the same. Just sign-up.
- -How
do I register for the choir I've been assigned to?
Pick up a pink 'add/drop' form and bring it to the first class meeting as delineated on the website. The director will sign you into the class. (You can pick up add/drop forms at the Student Services office, or in the Main Office in the Amy E du Pont Music Bldg.)
- -Why
are there two codes next to my name when I only
intended to try out for one choir?
If there are two codes next to your name, that means that one of the two codes is for admission to one of our advanced ensembles. It is assumed that if you are admitted into an advanced ensemble, that you already possess an excellent understanding of vocal production in the choral setting in addition to significant music reading skills. If the audition panel detected a deficiency in one of these areas, but thought you were otherwise ready for the advanced ensemble, you were assigned to both ensembles so you could build the necessary skills during the course of the semester.

if I only have time to take one ensemble - - which one should I take?
If you can only participate in one ensemble, sign up for the one with the code closest to your name. For example, your participation in Concert Choir will be the pre-requisite for your participation in Schola Cantorum or University Singers.
- -What
if I can't afford to add two choir credits to my schedule, but I'm
willing to participate in both?
Here again, register for the ensemble with the code nearest your name. We can work out a way for your to participate in a second ensemble without having to add another credit. Speak to your director about this situation so he or she can help you work out the details.
- -If
I'm only in one choir, can I take it for 'no credit?'
There is a special arrangement for those who are in Schola Cantorum to participate through Community Registration, which does include a fee, but substantially less than it would cost you to add an 18th credit. See the director or the choir manager if you prefer to register in this way. The other ensembles require you to register for participation.
